We are looking to hire a smart and dynamic individual to be our new Shop Foreman.
Acting as the Senior Technician, the Shop Foreman is responsible for the effective supervision of service department staff to ensure that quality standards and productivity requirements are met.
Responsibilities will include the training of staff members in service methods, safety, policies, and procedures, as well as the identification and correction of potential work problems and health and safety issues. In the course of his/her duties, the Shop Foreman will prepare a range of reports and hold responsibilities for the effective budgeting in his/her area. Through the effective management of targets, goals and service efficiencies, the Shop Foreman will ensure the ongoing success of the shop floor. He or she will act in the capacity of Service Technician as necessary. He or she will have the ability to troubleshoot major and minor mechanical problems, as well as have the ability to repair and adjust all necessary mechanical components. Work assignments will be received in the form of oral or written work orders, but the employee is expected to determine the nature and extent of needed repairs. Other duties may be assigned as required.

Job Duties
- Supervise the activities of service department shop workers.
- Instruct subordinates on service best practices.
- Maintain and distribute up-to-date service requirement information to subordinates.
- Ensure quality of workmanship through verification of services.
- Ensure completion of shop maintenance and repair work.
- Advise the mechanics of work that must be completed.
- Provide service for Diesel and gasoline engines.
- Provide routine maintenance as well as engine overhauls.
- Perform rebuilds.
- Check all heavy equipment for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions.
- Repair and adjust hydraulic pumps, safety valves, and any other necessary mechanical components.
- Requisition materials and supplies.
- Diagnose defects in heavy duty equipment.
- Diagnose any faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine the extent of repair that is required.
- Inspect, repair and adjust gasoline and diesel powered units.
- Perform incidental welding operations on equipment.
- Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations, and compliances.
- Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor in order to facilitate prompt correction or reporting.
- Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
- Perform mechanical repairs on equipment in the shop and road calls when required.
- Operate automotive servicing equipment, e.g. A/C recycler, etc.
- Installation of new and added-on equipment.
- Electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting and diagnostics.
- Accurate completion of work orders and time cards.
- Repair cooling, and lubrication systems.
- Install and align engines and machinery.
- Repair mechanical transmissions, drive-trains and final drives.
- Repair cable-operated working attachments, winches, compressors, pumps, electric generators, etc.
- Test repaired equipment for proper performance.
- Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work.
- Instruct apprentices.
- Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation.
- Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques.
- Other mechanical repair work as required.
Requirements
- Must hold a Journeyman's certificate, or have Red Seal.
- Completion of college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training.
- Appropriate credentials and certifications.
- 8 years' experience as a Heavy Duty Mechanic.
- Possess a valid driver's license.
- Minimum of 3 years' supervisory experience with demonstrated motivating, training, appraising and general supervisory skills.
- Leadership ability and team building skills to effectively supervise professional and non-professional staff required.
- Able to find new methods and principles and ability to incorporate them into existing practices as needed.
- Proven mechanical abilities in hydraulics and electrical, including schematics and diagnostics.
- Experience with routine maintenance operations.
- Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Able to work well under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
Work Conditions
- 24/7 availability may be required.
- Physical ability to lift up to 100lb.
- Travel to off-site locations may be required.
- Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
- Overtime as required.
- Hazards associated with the trade.
- Work both indoors and outdoors.
- May be exposed to construction sites.
